Traveled over to Crested Butte for another big storm. When the call arrived the Irwin area had already received 2ft of snow and there was 2ft more in the forecast. I rallied my sled mechanic Ryan to come with me, which was not too hard after telling him how much new snow was falling. We left at 6pm and drove all night through the storm until arriving around 2pm in the morn. We woke up early to snowy skies and to 10 inches in town. At the trail head we could tell it was gonna be one of those deep days/many deep days!! Once out of the groomed trails and into the open fields Zach and Ryan busted off into the meadows and completely disappear and submerged themselves into an abyss of white blower cold smoke!! What a site to see and I was jealous that I could only drool with envy as I sat patiently on my trusty ole beater sled Miss Charlotte knowing that if I dare follow she will not handle the 4 ft that was out there.
We finally made it up and out to Lake Irwin where I finally had to step it up and run my sled in the DEEPNESS! I tried to stay in the few tracks that were out there, which made it only 3 ft instead of 4 ft deep, but no matter how hard I goosed the gas and held on the pow would bog ole Charlotte down and I was forced to dig, and dig and dig some more. 4 ft of snow is no joke to sled in. See Zach here below getting after it that day.
